Alex Jones is a professional Digital Tech in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania USA. With over 20 years in the industry and photo assisting some of the most prominent photographers in the industry both locally and nationally he has a wealth of experience to draw on. Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley near Waynesboro Virginia an attending Wilson Memorial High School, Fishersville VA where he graduated in 1985. From there he attended Art Institute of Pittsburgh graduating in 1987. During that time he worked at The Sliding Board which produced 35-mm animated slide shows using multiple projectors and pin registered animation cameras. The pin registered work on the Marron Carrell is a method no longer used but came full circle with the advent of digital photography and the use of Photoshop layering. So nothing that is done is ever wasted. Everything builds on the last thing that is learned. Alex and Janice moved to Northern VA where Alex was fortunate to work with Cameron Davidson where he learned the essentials of being an accomplished Assistant. He deeply appreciates all that Cameron taught him and the friendship has continued for the last 20 years. One of the greatest things about the industry are those friendships that are built. As a Photographers Assistant he sees his role as critical to the success of the shoot and makes great effort at making sure that every thing is prepared and punctual. Commercial Photography is a demanding profession and Alex is uncompromising in getting it done. Production before the shoot and the right tools to getting it done are critical. Software also plays a huge part in the photographic industry as it is now. Photoshop, FlexFrame, C1-Pro, numerous plugins, Sunpath sun tracking, PageSpinner, iWeb, PhotoMechanic and the list goes on, are part of what makes the industry run. In the past Kodak, Fuji and the other producers of products determined how fast the photo industry moved forward. Now it rockets at a faster and faster rate with no sign of slowing down. Companies like Adobe make innovation happen in amazing ways with each new release of software. Beyond the realm of software, experimentation with new techniques and equipment are the other side of the creative venture. Alex has designed and had created some one of a kind lenses and cameras. One of his favorites is the Whatsitcam™ which is a Medium Format Digital Holga. This is also very similar to the Diana camera. The beauty of this Holga is the precision of the Medium Format Digital Back and its full range of shutter speeds. While this is a personal camera for Alex’s projects it may be available for use by others if the project is conducive to it. He always enjoys a challenge and producing great images. There is nothing better than a well executed photo shoot and great images when you are done. Alex is the primary source for rental strobe lights in Pittsburgh. While not a rental house, the kit is available on shoots on which he works. Alex R Jones is also the only freelance Digital Tech in Pittsburgh. Alex can also be found on the Pittsburgh ASMP site as well. Janice Jones handles the booking and scheduling most of the time so that you can get an answer quickly on availability. We look forward to working with you. Please give Alex Jones a call at 4123415459. All the Best.
